Punjab Shortens School Hours

BLOG IMAGE

On Friday, searing temperatures led the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab to issue alerts for a heatwave, rains, and storms this month. A wildfire broke out in Margalla Hills National Park due to the heat and strong winds. Punjab expects extreme heat from May 21-27, with dusty winds and thundershowers until May 18. Rain and strong winds are forecasted for several districts. Temperatures will rise 6-8°C above normal.

District administrations have been alerted, and the public is advised to avoid afternoon exposure to hot winds. Various departments have been notified to take precautions. In emergencies, contact the PDMA Helpline at 1129 or Rescue 1122.

School hours are reduced from May 18-31 to protect students and staff, operating 7 am-11:30 am on weekdays and 7 am-10 am on Fridays. Schools will close for summer from June 1 to August 14. Schools must ensure operational fans and water coolers, and keep students indoors.
