Peshawar High Court suspends MDCAT results

The
Peshawar High Court (PHC) has suspended the announcement of results of the
Medical and Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT).
Earlier
the candidates and parents of the candidates had filed a petition alleging the
use of unfair means in the exams by a significant number of candidates. It was
alleged that the candidates had used hidden Bluetooth devices to cheat during
the exam.
The court while temporarily preventing the Education Test and
Evaluation Agency (ETEA) has ordered the
chief secretary of KP, the Executive Director of the Education Test and
Evaluation Agency (ETEA), and the Registrar of the Pakistan Medical and Dental
Council (PMDC) to respond to allegations.
The court has instructed that MDCAT results should not be posted
on the official website until the next hearing, scheduled for Sept 21. This
action stems from complaints submitted by concerned parents and candidates about
MDCAT results to the Human Rights Cell in Peshawar. The complaint was forwarded
to Peshawar High Court. The complainants argued that around 200 students were
caught using Bluetooth devices during the exam. Reportedly, the K-P Interior
and Tribal Affairs Department established a seven-member JIT.
The allegations of the use of unfair means in the MDCAT are not
limited to KP, in Karachi too the allegations of leaking the paper prior to the
exam have surfaced. The Vice Chancellor of Jinnah Sind Medical University has
established a committee to investigate the allegations.
