Gilgit summer fiesta 2023 concluded on Friday, 14 July during which over 28,000 students were imparted training in various fields including Financial Literacy, IT, Mental Health, AI, and Climate Change.

The summer fiesta to empower youth was organized in 10 districts of GB by the government of the province. The events comprised IT boot camps, health awareness sessions, mental health education camps, and career counseling sessions. Several organizations, LUMS, Karandaaz, PNCA, Idara Taleem-e-Agahi, Steam Pakistan, NHA, Learn Obots, Knowledge Platforms, AKU, AKRSP, Rupani Foundation, GBRSP, Health Department, UNDP, WWF, Rescue 1122, and Social Welfare Department partnered with the GB government in organizing the fiesta.

Different organizations facilitated training in their area of expertise. For example, The National Institute of Banking and Finance (NIBAF) in collaboration with GBRSP held over 30 sessions in Kharmang, Nagar, Skardu, and Ghanche districts to impart financial training to over 1000 students.

Steam Pakistan, held an astronomy camp in Skardu in which students got to use a sundial to tell time, see the sun’s spots through a telescope and learn about the Big Bang.

The fiesta helped several students of Gilgit Baltistan to showcase their talent. Waqarullah Baig, a resident of a remote area in GB, studies at Governemnt High School Phander, in Ghizer. He has developed a Bluetooth antenna with a range of around 200 meters. It can be used to transmit photos, images, and voice messages. The product was showcased at the fiesta. Another student Fawad, who hails from Danyur, Gilgit, and is visually impaired is an excellent musician. The national college of Arts included him in a group of musical performances.

Overall the fiesta provided an excellent opportunity for the students of GB to listen to lectures of experts, develop skills, and present their products like handicrafts and paintings to experts from all over Pakistan, thereby boosting their confidence.
